reiki /ˈreɪki/ : a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique which promotes healing, stress reduction & relaxation. It is based on the idea that as energy (chi/ki/prana/life force) flows through us, we can raise its frequency in order to restore physical and emotional well-being. We, as practitioner, do so by holding space for you & by directing the energy through touch, off-body or even at distance in order to activate your natural healing processes.

Reiki clears stagnancy, helping energy to flow more freely around the body. It is suitable for all & for all ages.

History

” Usui Reiki is often referred to as the traditional system of Reiki, and most systems today certainly have Usui Reiki at their root.

Mikao Usui (1865-1926), or Usui Sensei as many respectfully refer to him, was thought to be a well-rounded, educated man with an interest in medicine, psychology and theology. He studied martial arts and traveled extensively beofre becoming a buddhits monk. It was at this time (in the early 1920s) that he was guided to undertake a twenty-one-day fast and meditation on Mount Kurama, as part of his spiritual journey.

On the twenty-first day of this experience, he received the understanding of Reiki energies as a pathway to self development, as well as the additional healing aspect of Reiki for self and others. Mount Kurama is consequently considered the birthplace of Reiki. “

Questions

I welcome you in a dedicated space where we initially discuss how the session will go, how you are feeling & where I will answer your questions – if any! You will then be invited to lie down – fully clothed – on a therapy couch or on a mat.

We will take a few breaths together to arrive fully in the space, bringing an intention for this time together & I will then proceed with the session. 

Throughout, I will be moving around you with my hands placed just above your body with the occasional touch, mainly on the shoulders or knees, if you are comfortable with touch. 

You may feel sensations such as heat, tingling, coolness or throbbing, or you may feel very little. Many experience a sense of wellbeing and relaxation, or fall asleep; sometimes it is more energizing. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.

I will finish the session by grounding you back in & inviting you to slowly bring your awareness back to the space.

We will then close the session. You might feel a little tired afterwards, so make sure to stay hydrated and not do any strenuous exercise on the day.

It will normally last at least 1 hour.

Prior to your appointment, I will invite you to find a quiet spot in the comfort of your own home, with a glass of water & some music should you wish. I will then contact you by phone or video call where we initially discuss how the session will go, how you are feeling & where I will answer your questions – if any! 

We will then go offline for the remaining off the session.

I then work in a very similar way than I would in person by holding space for you & allowing the energy to flow where it is needed.

You may feel sensations such as heat, tingling, coolness or throbbing, or you may feel very little and sometimes nothing at all. Many experience a sense of wellbeing and relaxation, or fall asleep; sometimes it is more energizing. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.

Once finished, I will let you know and check in to see how you experienced the session. You might feel a little tired afterwards, so make sure to stay hydrated and not do any strenuous exercise on the day.

The session will normally last up to 40 minutes.

There are no known contraindications for Reiki. It is an excellent and safe therapy to support other forms of treatment too as it induces a relaxation response for the nervous system. Please consult your doctor if you have any concerns on the suitability of Reiki for you.

Reiki is not intended for diagnostic purposes or as a replacement for medical treatment.

Not to worry, we all experience Reiki differently. Not feeling anything doesn’t mean that nothing is happening. The energy will still be flowing to where it needs to go, each session is simply unique in its process and its experience.

The important thing is to be open & to enjoy this pause in its simplicity. How often do you get to lie down in a safe space & rest?
